Neo-Bohemia Book Cover"Neo-Bohemia: Art and Commerce in the Post-Industrial City"
July 21, 6-8pm
Libertalia, 280 Broadway, Providence, RI

Sandy Zipp, Assistant Professor of American Civilization and Urban Studies at Brown University (bio at the bottom of the page), will moderate a discussion on selected readings from Richard D Lloyd's "Neo-Bohemia".

Neo-Bohemia is a case study of the cultural revitalization/gentrification of Chicago's Wicker Park neighborhood in the 90s. Possible questions for discussion (moderated by Sandy Zipp, an Urban/American studies professor at Brown):

  • How do artists participate in processes of urban renewal?
  • How is artists' labor used in various economies? Who benefits?
  • What are the implications of this conversation in Providence?

The discussion will be held at Libertalia "autonomous space for public initiative and media access, for the support of community power and dialogue".

Readings will be available at Libertalia and AS220 in Providence starting July 12. If you can't pick up a packet, email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to make arrangements.
